I actually have not found places like this before where it is on an island and also on lake front with access to a canoe. Great value as well. I would like /5(6). Unicorn Magic. The main drawback with this book is that Eager did not bother to come up with a hook to make the magic begin, as he did with the magic coin in "Half Magic." Basically, the children arrive at a lake house for their summer vacation and the magic just /5(23).

Magic by the Lake didn't feel quite as much fun as Half Magic, likely because of the subplot of Mr. Smith's business worries, but it's still a highly creative and enjoyable story.

There are still plenty of fun literary references and tributes to the work of E. Nesbit, but the latter are often given a bit of a twist/5. When wishing for magic, it’s hard not to wish for too much. If Jane, Mark, Katharine, and Martha had stopped to think—oh, if they had only stopped to think!—they would have ordered magic by the pound, or by the day, or even by the halves as they had in Half no, they asked for magic by the lake—and now they have to deal with a whole lakeful of enchantment!/5(21).

Magic by the Lake. By N. Bodecker, Edward Eager. Grades. Genre. Fiction When seven-year-old Martha and her twelve-year-old sister Jane wish for a whole lakeful of magic, there is nothing for a poor old turtle to do but grant their wish.

Magic by the Lake Book Summary and Study Guide Edward Eager Magic lake book Edward Eager Message Board Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Magic by magic lake book Lake Jane, Mark, Katharine, and Martha are spending the summer in the country, by a lake, when they catch a turtle who has the power to grant wishes (but prefers the wishes to be water-based).

The author of Half Magic is back with his large family, Mark Katherine, Jane, Martha, their mother and their stepfather, Mr. Smith, to transport them to a lake for the summer. The four children are primed for magic and it comes quite unobtrusively through a mild but determined turtle who says they may have three wishes.

They lead to such far flung realms as piracy and boat house dances and, as. On Mystic Lake is an honest and reflective account of what can happen to a person when they get lost within their own lives. Annie, the main character, was such a lovely woman and I enjoyed watching her evolve into a stronger person who, by the end of the novel, had a much truer sense of her own self-worth/5.
